The Sound of the South Marching Band will be holding audition for the 2008 University Dance Team. This team will perform at all home football games and travel with the band to away games. The Dance Team also performs at pep rallies, band exhibitions, and community events.

About the Auditions
Auditions will be on Saturday, April 5th, 2008. Registration will begin in the band room at 8 a.m. with auditions starting at 9:30 a.m.
Auditions will be closed to the public; only dancers, judges and band personnel will be able to be in the audition room.

Location: Registration will in the John M. Long Hall (Band Room) on the campus of Troy University, Troy, Alabama. Auditions will be at the Rec Center Gym dance room located by the outdoor pool on the campus of Troy University, Troy, AL

Captain and Co-Captain Interviews: (details to follow)
Interviews will be held the following days: (tentative)

Tuesday, April 1st                        1:00-5:00
Thursday, April 3rd                      1:00-5:00

A sign-up sheet will be posted on the bulletin board in Long Hall after spring break.  If you are interested, please sign the sheet for an interview.  You must have been a dancer for at least one marching season with the Sound of the South and must have a GPA of 2.2 and maintain a GPA of 2.2.  You will also need to be enrolled in MUS1181 during the fall semester 2008.

Eligibility
Students auditioning for the dance team must be enrolled at Troy University during Fall Semester 2008.  Candidates must also have a BMI (body mass index) of 24 or less but no less than 17 in order to audition. Each individual will be weighed and measured for BMI accuracy at registration. Attire
Dance costume (no Troy uniforms), leotard and tights, or jazz pants and top. Dress according to what makes you feel comfortable and able to attract the judge’s attention. No shorts or t-shirts will be allowed. Hair and make-up should be how the individual feels is appropriate for their performance.

Audition Format
Auditions will go in the following format:

•  Performance of  basic technique skills including
• double pirouette (left and right)
• fouette turn sequence
• axel turn (left & right)
• leap in second
• toe touch
• splits
• heel stretches (left & right)
• layout
• short series of high kicks
• Performance of short routine in groups (Taught at auditions)
• Performance of individual routine (This routine should be 1-1/2 minutes in length)

What to Expect

Dancers will meet once a month during the summer months of May, June, and July for uniform fittings and to learn standard routines that will be performed at every game.  Band camp will be held for two weeks during the month of August.
