Thanks for your interest in the Troy University majorette line and/or feature twirler position. We are very proud of our majorettes and feature twirlers and they are a great addition to the Sound of the South each year. Auditionees for majorette and feature twirler must have a BMI (body mass index) of 24 or less to audition. Each individual will be weighed and measured for BMI accuracy at registration for auditions. 8:00 a.m. Registration – Long Hall Band room
9:30 a.m. Auditions – Recreation Center Gym (Elm Street)
Auditions will be closed to the public; only majorettes, judges and band personnel will be able to be in the audition room.
Captain and Co-Captain Interviews: (details to follow)
Interviews will be held the following days: (tentative)
Tuesday, April 1st 1:00-5:00
Thursday, April 3rd 1:00-5:00
A sign-up sheet will be posted on the bulletin board in Long Hall after spring break. If you are interested, please sign the sheet for an interview. You must have been a majorette for at least one marching season with the Sound of the South and must have a GPA of 2.2 and maintain a GPA of 2.2. You will also need to be enrolled in MUS1181 during the fall semester 2008.
Results:
The results of the auditions will be posted the next week. Formal letters will also be mailed out to each individual.
What to Expect:
Majorettes will meet once a month during the summer months of May, June, and July for uniform fittings and to learn standard routines that will be performed at every game. Band camp will be held for two weeks during the month of August.

MAJORETTE
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
Basic Skills:
Vertical 1-turn
Vertical 2-turn
Horizontal 1-turn
Horizontal 2-turn
Horizontal finger twirls (left & right)
Vertical finger twirls (left & right)
High toss bow
Split (left or right)
Individual Routine:
Perform a 1-1/2 to 2 minute baton routine. The music should be recorded on a CD labeled as “Name: Baton Routine”. One and two baton tricks should be included as well as dance skills such as leaps, kicks, etc. No props are allowed during this routine. Judging will cease after two minutes.
Group Routine:
You will also be judged on your learning ability through a group routine that will be taught the day of the auditions. You will be judged on your ability to perform with good facial expression, body technique and coordination to perform in a group.
Performance Attire:
Black soffe shorts & tank tops (of any color)
No majorette uniforms (including Troy majorette uniforms)
Hair and make-up should be how the individual feels is appropriate for their performance
Shoes: jazz shoes preferred
Batons:
28” length baton – standard or major tips
No rose-tipped/Star/International tips

FEATURE TWIRLER
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
Basic Skills:
Horizontal 2-turn
Vertical 3-turn and/or higher
Horizontal 3-turn and/or higher
Toss Bow
Toss Cartwheel
Toss Illusion
Split
3 or more baton juggles
Auditions will be closed to the public; only majorettes, judges and band personnel will be able to be in the audition room.
Individual Routine:
Perform a 1-1/2 to 2 minute baton routine. The music should be recorded on a CD labeled as “Name: Baton Routine”. Two and three baton tricks must be included. No props are allowed during this routine. Judging will cease after two minutes. The following skills must be executed during this segment of competition:
toss cartwheel, illusion, 3-turn and 3 baton juggles.
Group Routine:
You will also be judged on your learning ability through a group routine that will be taught the day of the auditions. You will be judged on your ability to perform with good facial expression, body technique and coordination to perform in a group.
