Vocal/Choral Music
Concert Chorale

"Voices cannot be violated, individual spirits cannot be crushed, and the composer cannot get lost. Communication from the composer and the score through the conductor to the musicians and then from the musicians outward is the ultimate standard."

Concert Chorale

Dr. Diane Orlofsky - Conductor

Orlofsky"What a privilege to direct the TROY University Concert Chorale. This group evolved from a 13-member Chamber Choir to a 48-member Concert Chorale. We sing a variety of wonderful choral literature, enjoy each other's company, and seek daily to make every rehearsal a performance. We hope that you choose TROY University as a place to study and come audition for a place in this exciting, quality ensemble. You'll be glad that you did!"

The premier vocal ensemble in the John M. Long School of Music, the Troy University Concert Chorale is a group of singers performing challenging classical, traditional, and contemporary choral repertoire. The auditioned choir boasts a representation from every corner of TROY's campus, with members from a variety of majors. The Concert Chorale offers students an opportunity for advanced study in various genres of choral music, with emphasis on development of quality ensemble singing, good vocal technique, expression in music, and musical maturity. The group is directed by Dr. Diane Orlofsky, with Vocal/Choral Graduate Assistant Laura Aaron serving as assistant conductor.

Laura Aaron – Graduate Assistant

Laura AaronLaura Aaron is a 2001 graduate of Baldwin County High School located in Bay Minette, Alabama.  Laura accepted the Milton Jackson Memorial Scholarship to Faulkner State Community College in Bay Minette where she studied piano and voice with the Faulkner music faculty, tutored fellow students in music theory, and participated in the Faulkner Singers, Faulkner Jazz Band, and the Faulkner Sun Chief Sound Show Choir.  She played the part of Christ’s mother, Mary, in the first annual FSCC Christmas On The Coast production in 2002.

Laura transferred to Troy University in 2003 and majored in K-12 Vocal/Choral Music Education.  While in school, Laura continued her studies in piano and voice.  She was an active participant in Collegiate Singers, Chamber Choir, Opera Ensemble and the Sound of the South Marching Band.  Laura also served as piano accompanist in Troy’s theatre productions of Snoopy the Musical and Pippin’.  One of Laura’s highest honors was being selected to participate in a conducting workshop with Dr. Andre Thomas from FSU at the Alabama Music Educator’s Convention in 2005.  Laura graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Music Education in 2006.  She then moved back to her hometown where she was the choral director at Baldwin County High School for two years and co-director of the Jubilee Children’s Community Chorus from 2006-2007.

Laura’s most memorable performance opportunity was performing with her high school choir in New York City’s Carnegie Hall under the direction of John Rutter.  She has also served as a church pianist and minister of music, as well as a private instructor of piano and voice.

Haley Odom - Soprano Section Leader
My name is Haley Odom, and I am a junior print journalism major and graphic design minor from Birmingham. As the soprano section leader for the Troy University Concert Chorale, I am really excited about the challenging and beautiful pieces we will be performing this year! Although I am not a music major, I have been a member of both the Collegiate Singers and Concert Chorale ensembles and I am an active member of Sigma Alpha Iota, an international academic music fraternity for women. I love to sing, play piano, and make music with others while listening to them share their own musical talents. Music is a special part of my life, and it makes me smile when our group can share it with others. Therefore, I encourage everyone to come to our concerts and other performances! It will be a joy to sing for you!
