Mike Keeley has been a teacher and performer of trumpet and cornet for over 30 years. He is a native of Philadelphia, PA and graduated from Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY with two Bachelor of Music degrees (Music Education and Trumpet Performance). After serving three years as Principal Trumpet and Cornet Soloist of the Quantico (VA) Marine Corps Band, he was a graduate teaching assistant with the “Pride of the Southland” Band at the University of Tennessee. Upon graduation with the Master of Science degree in Music Education and Choral Conducting, Mike auditioned for and won a position in the cornet section of the United States Navy Band in Washington, DC. While in Washington, he continued graduate work in conducting at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA studying with Anthony Maeillo and Colonel Arnald Gabriel. He has performed with orchestras, concert bands and brass bands in Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama and Florida.
During his tenure in the Navy Band, Mike began working in the ministry of music. He has served as the Director of Music at Burke (VA) United Methodist Church, Porterfield (Albany, GA) UMC, and Brentwood (TN) UMC. He is currently Director of Music and Media at First UMC in Dothan, AL were his duties include not only directing the choirs and orchestra, but also web design, advertising, and TV/Video production. He is married to Shelley Keeley who is the Band Director at Honeysuckle Middle School and Dothan, AL. They have two children, Jordie (17) and Tyler (16).
