   Dr. Hui-Ting Yang
John M. Long School of Music
   Troy University
   Troy, AL 36082

Hui-Ting Yang received the Doctor of Music in Piano Performance: Accompanying/Chamber Music in 2006 from Florida State University, where she also received the Master of Music in Accompanying. She received the Master of Music in Piano Performance from Ohio University, where she won the University Concerto Competition and performed as soloist with the Ohio University Orchestra, and the Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Taipei Municipal Teacher’s College. Prior to joining the faculty at Troy University, she taught as an Adjunct Professor of Piano and served as an accompanist and vocal coach at the Gulf Coast Community College in Panama City, Florida.

Dr. Yang is interested in developing and exploring new repertoire, especially contemporary music. In February 2007 she gave the world premiere of Clifton Callender’s Point and Line to Plane for piano solo, which was composed for her, in the Thirteenth Biennial Festival of New Music at the Florida State University. She has also performed this piano piece in the 2008 SCI National Conference at Georgia State University, the National Conference of the College of Music Society in Atlanta, and the 2008 CMS Southern/South Central SuperRegional Conference at Louisiana State University. In November 2006 she was invited as a guest pianist to perform Ladislav Kubik’s Portrait for piano and two percussionists at “The Days of Contemporary Music” festival in Prague, organized by the Society of Czech Composers. The performance has been broadcast on Czech Radio, and a recording of the performance will be released by Arco Diva in 2009. Other contemporary composers whose works she has performed include Augusta Read Thomas, Laura Schwendinger, and Matthew Burtner.

Dr. Yang has presented lecture recitals on the Taiwanese art songs of Hsiao Tyzen at several conferences in 2008, including the National Meeting of the Society for Ethnomusicology at Wesleyan University campus in Middletown, the National Conference of the College of Music Society in Atlanta, and the 2008 Southern/South Central SuperRegional Conference at Louisiana State University.

Additionally, the Hanna-Yang Duo, a collaboration with violinist Emily Hanna Crane, has performed throughout the United States and Taiwan. In 2006 the duo gave the Asian premiere of Ju-hwan Yu’s Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 1, which was dedicated to Dr. Yang. Their recording of the Sonata has been released by Kum Seong Records. The duo will also give the premiere of a new piece by Clifton Callender, commissioned by the Florida State Music Teachers Association, at the FSMTA Annual Conference in June 2009.

Dr. Yang is a Lecturer of Music at Troy University, where she teaches piano and serves as an accompanist.
