The Southeastern United States High School Honor Choir

The Voice and Choral Area of the Long School of Music at Troy University announces the 1st Annual Southeastern United States High School Honor Choir. The SEUS High School Honor Choir will be held January 18-19, 2008. This ensemble will feature the most talented high school singers from Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and Mississippi. The weekend festival will include two days of rehearsal, concluding with a concert held on January 19 in Crosby Theater at Troy University. Dr. Tom Wine from Wichita State University will be the guest clinician. During the weekend High School seniors will have the opportunity to audition for Troy University voice/choral scholarships. Information Letter

Please complete the Honor Choir Festival Director Recommendation Form and return it to us no later than November 1st, 2007. Directors and students will be notified of student acceptance by November 15th. Student registration fees for students selected to participate will be due by December 1st, 2007.

Tom Wine is Professor of Music Education and Director of Choral Activities at Wichita State University. He is in his sixteenth year of college teaching following ten years of public school teaching. He is former instructor at the University of Alabama, Tallahassee Community College, and Spartanburg High School in South Carolina where he was nominee for South Carolina Teacher of the Year. His articles have appeared in Choral Journal, Contributions to Music Education and Kansas Music Review. He has been a contributor to the Choral Directors Cookbook and Strategies for Teaching series and Music Makes the Difference text published by MENC. His book, Composers on Composing for Choir, was published by GIA Press in March, 2007. He received his Ph.D. at Florida State University, MME at Duquesne University, and BS at Alderson-Broaddus College. Wine is past-president of Kansas ACDA. He served as editor of the Choral Range for six years, which was identified by ACDA in 2001 as an “Outstanding State Newsletter.” He currently serves as the Interest Session chair for the Southwestern division of ACDA. His choirs, the WSU Madrigal Singers and A Cappella Choir, have appeared at the KMEA in-service workshop in 2002, 03, 05, 06, and 07. He led choirs on trips to Europe on three different occasions with the Kansas Ambassadors. Wine directs the Chancel Choir at Eastminster Presbyterian Church.
