Troy University’s Music History Institute in Dresden, Germany is designed to give both music and non-music majors a unique glimpse into German culture with a specific focus on the country’s artistic and musical histories.

Students will reside in Dresden, Germany, the capital of the historic state of Saxony. Additional excursions to Berlin, Potsdam, Leipzig, Halle, Weimar, and Prague will be included in the travel itinerary.

Lectures will focus on music of the Classical, Romantic, and Modern eras. This trip includes guided tours of museums and sites dedicated to composers from these eras, as well as Baroque period composers G.F. Handel and J.S. Bach. On-site lectures featuring Austro-Germanic topics will be the primary course delivery method. Student learning will be assisted by the Blackboard course management system, guided readings, video and audio podcasts, and daily classroom instruction.
