Adrian Smith, 2nd Place Winner at the National Association of Teachers of Singing Student Adjudications
Being at Troy has opened many doors for me. As a vocal student, I have been a part of several groups and including the Chamber Choir, Concert Chorale, Opera Ensemble, and Collegiate Singers. I've also had the privilege of studying under Dr. Catherine Allard, Dr. Diane Orlofsky, and Dr. Michael Hix, who are three very gifted musicians. With intense training and support from this program, I was able to showcase what I've learned at the annual Alabama National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Competition in 2007 where I was awarded 2nd Place.

Class of 2009, Music Industry/Theater Double Major
The music department's vocal/choral program at Troy University has helped me tremendously over the past several years. First and foremost, student achievement is among the highest of priorities for all of the faculty and it has been my experience that the entire staff is more than willing to do whatever it takes to help someone achieve their goals. Also, the philosophy of working towards being a skillful musician encourages the more didactic aspects of the program and vice versa; not to mention the level of excellence expected and achieved throughout all facets of the department. With the department still a bit smaller, it's easy to be able to explore many different areas to find a niche. I have been lucky to work with several different ensembles and several different teachers to help hone my skills and it is because of this that I am able to learn to write and arrange music for different venues and work towards becoming a composer. All things considered, the vocal/choral program here at Troy keeps me continuously working towards my goals with the highest level of excellence needed to be successful.
